Duality informs my design process as much as it inspires the finished results of that process. This collection of sculptural lanterns is named Halo, referencing the ethereal glow of enlightenment. Sculpted by hand, in the round, I find myself dancing with each lantern as I build it; one fold and pleat informs the next and on and on culminating in a duality of light and shadow, creased and smooth, my desires, and the paper’s capacity to be. Each lantern is my own exploration of balance; the corrugated pleats, and soft rolling folds oppose and harmonize with the light emanating from within.
