“TRUE BEAUTY IS FOUND IN THE OVERLAP, THE SPACE BETWEEN THE POSSIBLE AND THE SUBLIME.”
Chromalis is an award winning textiles and wallcovering collection. It’s creation came from my desire to design a collection that made full use of contemporary printing technology, and digital modeling software. Each family within the collection explores color and shape in ways that make full use of the color spectrum available via digital printing. No other method of production would be as adept at bringing the collection from the screen into reality.
The simplest, but no less striking of the CHROMALIS patterns involved Bowers programming algorithms that generated intersecting linework, creating moiré effects that give the illusion of shape and depth. Each colorway combines two vibrant colors that seem to reverberate throughout the digitally printed pattern
Aerial photos of a landscape were the basis for two pattern variations that Bowers created through digital manipulation of the perspective and planar geometry. As in all of his CHROMALIS creations, Bowers challenged the need for uniformity within the patterning while maintaining a balance of color and composition.
Just as Impressionist painters layered visible brushstrokes of colors to capture the bare impression of form, Bowers combined dabs of colors with the purity and intensity of spray-painted street art to create Graffito. When viewed from afar, Serpentine forms can be seen flowing up and down the 6-foot length of the upholstery textile
